Our young hounds took centre stage at the Pre-Puppy Show, charming the crowd and winning admirers with every wag and bound.
Last year's litter of RA Hounds have returned to kennels to begin practice for our Puppy Show - seen here under the steady watch of expert kennelman!
A young hound’s training begins when they go out “at walk.” Around eight weeks old, they leave the Kennels to live with one of our dedicated volunteer Puppy Walkers. During this time, the pups become familiar with everyday sights and sounds—cats and children, poultry and livestock, horses, and cars.
The following winter or spring, they return to “enter” the pack and continue their development under the guidance of the Huntsman. They then join what’s known as the "new" or “young entry.”The Puppy Show offers the community a chance to celebrate our hounds and marks the beginning of a new season.
It’s a special event where supporters, followers, and subscribers are introduced to our young entry and where we honour the dedication of our puppy walkers, who have played a vital role in the early education of the newest members of the pack.
Pre-puppy shows like this help familiarise the hounds with new sights and smells, and ease their adjustment to the show ring.
